Once upon a time The NPBHS Dance band circa 1963
..there were boys who left their family homes and boarded at one of New Zealand's leading public schools, New Plymouth Boy's High School.
They came from farms and towns throughout the country and some from further shores. This site is dedicated to them, my fellow boarders from our years at school, 1962-1966. I rediscovered a portfolio of school photos and they brought back a lot of memories - some good and some less so. The boarding house where I spent those formative years no longer exists. In truth, I have only been back once to the school and that was many years after I left. Even then I didn’t recognise most of what I saw, although the arched entrance remains as do memories of socks pulled high and straightened caps. And yes, I am the drummer with the faux Beatle haircut in the photograph above. Also from left are Nigel Coddington, myself, Ngatai Raupoutu, Danny Christensen with Jim Worth kneeling at front. The images and reminiscences are mainly, but not exclusively, focused on the early 1960's. This site replaces previous versions built on earlier social network platforms. My thanks to my former Housemaster Bob McCaw who kindly shared the Pridham House photo archives with me. |
