What strange days they would seem today. 15 years after WW2 in which some masters had served. Discipline that todays faculty and students would struggle to comprehend.
History drew a long bow when it comes to family association. I later married Aylsa Campbell whose father Colin was an old boy and taught piano there for 40 years, brother Terry, brother-in-law JJ Stewart, Mother "Mrs Campbell" taught dancing class at Girls' High for many years.
Both my sons boarded in Carrington as did my brother-in-law (second marriage) Mark Johnson 65-69.
I read the notes re George Meredith, the gentle giant and I were members of the 1st Interact club in NZ, a junior Rotary club organised by Stuart Hayton and Jack Webster from the NP Rotary club. George and I spent the next year, "64 in a Salvation Army student hostel in Wellington and won the Wgtn student pairs snooker champs.
It was through Rotary that I later caught up with Roger Smith and Bob McCaw. At one stage there were 6 Old Boys in our Napier club. (Small world isn't it)
It's been a long time and I haven't seen many from my era since, but I remember a lot of them as good buggers I'd like to have a beer with one day.
